Upgrade, downgrade and overages

Change plans at any time, understand proration, and what "overages" and a paused site mean.

Plans can be changed at any time from Website → Billing.

Upgrade

Pick the higher plan and confirm. The change is immediate: limits and features apply as soon as checkout completes, and the difference for the rest of the billing period is charged pro rata. Your existing card is offered if you have one saved.

Downgrade or cancel

Choose a lower plan or the Free plan. Before confirming, Billing lists anything on your site that the cheaper plan does not allow. That list is your overages:

  • more links, posts, content items or subscribers than the new limit;
  • more image storage than the new quota;
  • a tool the new plan does not include, such as custom domains.

A paid downgrade takes effect at the end of the current period; you keep what you paid for until then. During that time, remove or reduce the items in the list.

What happens if the site is still over the limit

When a subscription ends (you cancelled, a trial lapsed, or payments failed for more than seven days) the website falls back to the Free plan. If it still exceeds Free limits, it is paused: visitors see a “site paused” page, the portal shows the exact overages with links to fix them, and everything you created is kept.

The site comes back the moment it fits (delete the extra links, remove the custom domain, and so on) or the moment you resubscribe. Nothing is deleted for you.

Tip

Downgrading rarely needs drastic action. Hidden links and draft posts count towards limits, so archiving old ones by exporting first is often enough.

Payment failed

If a renewal fails, Billing shows Payment problem with Fix payment method. Update the card there; Stripe retries automatically. The plan stays active for seven days after the period end while retries run.
